This week is National Payroll Week. I urge you to celebrate with your current employees. It’s a great way to build your team and acknowledge that you appreciate them.
However, I also know that many of my friends, particularly in the trades, are having great difficulty finding good help.
Let me help you with that.

There are numerous reasons for you to consider doing this:

Veterans are typically in great shape
-
Veterans are team players
Bonus reason for hiring veterans–Work Opportunity Tax Credit
There is a federal tax credit available to for-profit companies who hire veterans. Here’s some details on how to go about getting this Tax Credit from the Mass Department of Veterans Affairs. It’s a little tricky, so read carefully and consider getting some help. Contact info is below.
For-profit employers in Massachusetts may be eligible for a federal tax credit through the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) program if they hire a qualifying unemployed veteran. An unemployed veteran is a person discharged or released from the military during the five years preceding the hiring date who received unemployment benefits for a least four weeks during the one-year period ending on the hiring date. Individuals must be identified as members of one of these targeted groups before a job offer is made.
The WOTC program has two purposes: to help individuals who qualify as members of a target group to get a job; and to help employers who hire qualified individuals by giving them a credit on their federal taxes. The person hired must be employed for at least 120 hours. For more information on this federal program, ask a DVOP/LVER at a Career Center or call 877-US2-JOBS for the Career Center locations near you.
